This editorial illustration was created for the German business magazine WirtschaftsWoche. The article looks at Brazil’s upcoming presidential election and examines what a victory for either side could mean for the country, its economy, and international investors.

To illustrate this, I have created an image of the Brazilian flag being pulled in opposite directions by two different hands. The flag becomes a symbol for a country caught between two political directions and the competing ideas about its future.

I was interested in reducing the political conflict to a simple image of tension. Instead of showing the candidates themselves, the two hands suggest the opposing forces behind the election while leaving the focus on Brazil and what is at stake.
